Guerra nucleare, riviste mediche si mobilitano

“Qualsiasi utilizzo di armi nucleari sarebbe catastrofico per l’umanità”. Così l’ultimo editoriale del British Medical Journal (BMJ), pubblicato in contemporanea su numerose riviste medico-scientifiche mondiali.

Dati alla mano, “anche se fosse un intervento limitato, usando ad esempio 250 dei 13.000 ordigni nucleari disponibili, potrebbe uccidere 120 milioni di persone e metterne a rischio altri 2 miliardi” per danni ambientali e carestie conseguenti.

Una guerra nucleare su vasta scala farebbe invece 200 milioni di morti nel’immediato, riservando una agonia da “inverno atomico” ad altri 6 miliardi di persone, “minacciando la sopravvivenza stessa dell’umanità”.

Per questo “la prevenzione dall’uso di armi nucleari è da considerare urgente priorità sanitaria”.

Non ci sono dubbi. Per gli scienziati “le armi nucleari vanno abolite”.
